Remembering Mommy
As I look in the mirror,
I see you.
People said I was just like you.
I look like you…
and I act like you.
but I disagreed –
and yet in many ways they were right.
It was not that I didn’t want to be like you,
Well…(maybe when I was a teen searching for my “self”… my place in this world… my independence caused me not to want to be compared to you.)
I wanted to be seen and known for who I am …ME.
I didn’t realize how much of a compliment that was…
to be compared to you.
And now, as I have taken on that role of the matriarch of the family, I see that the apple doesn’t fall quite far from the tree. As I have stumbled on to that revelation, I just pray that when my time comes that I will be…
adored,
loved
and respected as much as was evident by the many people who came to say goodbye.
I love you MOMMY.
